Windows 98 SE The legend of OS
Originally it was called Memphis, and then Windows 97, but Microsoft changed the name when it realized that it was going to miss its target 1997 release date.
Windows 98 offers support for a number of new technologies, including FAT32, AGP, MMX, USB, DVD, and ACPI. Its most visible feature, though, is the Active Desktop, which integrates the Web browser (Internet Explorer) with the operating system. From the user's point of view, there is no difference between accessing a document residing locally on the user's hard disk or on a Web server halfway around the world.
A major upgrade to Windows 95. Introduced in June 1998, it included numerous bug fixes, performance enhancements and support for more hardware, including the Universal Serial Bus (USB). It added support for two monitors, which helps developers working in one resolution and testing in another. Windows 98 tightly integrated Microsoft's Internet Explorer Web browser into the desktop. Windows 98 (codenamed Memphis) is a graphical operating system released on June 25 1998 by Microsoft and the successor to Windows 95. Like its predecessor, it is a hybrid 16-bit/32-bit monolithic product based on MS-DOS.
The first edition of Windows 98 is designated by the internal version number 4.10.1998, or 4.10.1998A if it has been updated with the Security CD from Microsoft. Windows 98 Second Edition is designated by the internal version number 4.10.2222A, or 4.10.2222B if it has been updated with the Security CD from Microsoft. The successor to Windows 98 is Windows Me.
